Moon's Point (Creek) Cemetery Streator, Illinois
|
"Moon Creek Cemetery" just south of Streator, IL. This
creepy old place is surrounded on three sides by thick
trees and brush; the entrance crosses a railroad track.
As local folklore states, if one is caught after dark in the
cemetery when the train goes by, you won't be able to
start your car (or it will die if you are in it). A ghost of a
witch that lived in the aforementioned run-down house will
come out and do, of course, unspeakable things to those
left in her "yard".
From the time you go through the gates of this cemetery
you get the definite feeling that you are being watched.
Even in the daylight hours there is a presence. In certain
areas you almost feel overcome with emotion. There is
nothing spectacular about this cemetery. It is in a simple
quiet setting outside of town secluded among trees on
three sides.
There is probably no documentation concerning the
creation of the cemetery, things like that were pretty
informal back then, but it is fairly certain that the first burial
was Jacob Moon's grandson Thomas Moon, who died on
Oct. 20, 1843. It simply makes sense that Jacob Moon
would have created the cemetery upon the death of a
family member.
It is not exactly clear as to when the Haunting began in this
cemetery but there have been hundreds of accounts of
paranormal activity within and around the cemetery. Some
of the unexplained activity are whispers, children giggling,
flashes of light in and around the cemetery grounds and
sometimes dancing flashes of light around gravestones,
red and white flashing orbs and a ghost of a 19th. Century
man who wears a hat from that time period.
Recently we went to the cemetery and took some photo's
and what appeared to be a person's head was caught in
one of the photo's by our car. We have it posted in our
photo section 3. It is definitely worth another walk through.
