POLTERGEISTS
What is a Poltergeist ?

Poltergeist is a German word meaning “noisy/rattling spirit”.
Poltergeist manifestations are one of the most common
paranormal events in modern homes. Some researchers believe
that poltergeists are not ghosts but phenomena caused by
mental disturbances. Poltergeists often appear when a certain
member of the family is present. Children, adolescents and the
elderly seem to be more susceptible to such phenomena.
Manifestations include: moving/levitating objects (furniture being
rearranged, glasses being smashed, etc.), creaks, knocks,
temperature changes, pools of water appearing, etc.
Poltergeists can cause a great deal of damage within the home,
but there are no recorded cases of severe physical injury
occurring because of them. Exorcism has little effect; the spirit
merely laughs at the ceremony. (Source: Zurich Mansion

Here are some brief comments on what Poltergeists are believed
to be...

Poltergeist is a German word meaning noisy ghost (some also
say Poltergeist means mischievous Ghost), I think there is a
common misconception that Poltergeists are evil, but this is not
necessarily true.

There is also a common misconception that the majority of
Poltergeist happens around children, especially teenagers with
hormones running wild, again this is not always true and can
happen without the presence of children.

A Poltergeist is known as a ghost which can interact, move
objects, including furniture also with reports of throwing people
about.

Some also say Poltergeists are a form of psychokinesis

Dave from Oxford in the UK wrote :

Poltergeist is actually derived from the word Poltern from Middle
High German boldern which quite literally means 'to make noise',
so in essence these should be reworded as Polterngeist, in my
belief and opinion there is very little to distinguish between an
apparitional ghost or Polterngeist.

Every ghostly encounter produces some sort of audio interaction
and all have the same patterns of manifestations be that of
noises, foul smelling odours, movement or levitation, significant
increase/decrease in temperature, creation of disorder, objects
thrown in a parabolic fashion, etc, some theories suggest
Polterngeist anomalies are simply nothing more than
subconscious psychic energy through Telekinesis or Pk,
psychokinetic thoughts linked to a specific person with
physiological trauma.

There are those who are bothered by what they believe to be
Poltergeists.  The following was posted on the Internet but the
Author preferred to stay Anonymous so we cannot be sure of
the validity of their statement.  This was published in August
"1998"

"We believe that we are being haunted by a family of
poltergeists (ghosts)  And they supposedly were murdered in the
home we live in about 20 years ago. Strange things have been
occurring in our new home. NO one has lived in this house for
more than six months since the murders occurred. We have
been living here for about one year, and we are very afraid.
Lights go out all the time, channels on the t.v. And radio change
all by themselves, and things fly across the room."

The family that submitted this said also that they had tried
everything but the haunting would not stop.  The reason we
publish this is that these are some of the customary things you
would find with a Poltergeist.

This is the definition according to the Wikapedia Encyclopedia

Poltergeist  (German for noisy ghost) is a term used to describe
a spirit or ghost that manifests itself by moving and influencing
inanimate objects.

Reports of poltergeist activity typically feature heavily on raps,
bumps thumps, knocks, footsteps, and bed-shaking, all without a
discernible point of origin or physical reason for occurrence.
Many accounts also detail objects being thrown about the room,
furniture being moved, and even people being levitated. Though
rare, a few poltergeists have been known to speak, including the
The Bell Witch in 1817 and Gef the Talking Mongoose in 1931.

Research
Poltergeist phenomena are a focus of study within
parapsychology. Parapsychologists define poltergeist activity as
a type of uncontrolled psychokinesis. Recurrent Spontaneous
Psychokinesis (RSPK) is a phrase suggested by
parapsychologist William G. Roll to denote poltergeist
phenomena. The longevity and consistency between poltergeist
reports (the earliest one details the raining of stones and bed
shaking in ancient Egypt) has left the matter open for debate
within the parapsychology community

Separate existences
Poltergeists might simply exist, like the "elementals" described by
occultists.

Another version posits that poltergeists originate after a person
dies in a powerful rage at the time of death. According to yet
another opinion, ghosts and poltergeists are "recordings." When
there is a powerful emotion, sometimes at death and sometimes
not, a recording is believed to be "embedded" in a place or,
somehow, in the "fabric of time" itself. This recording will
continue to play over and over again until the energy embedded
disperses.

However some poltergeists have had the ability to articulate
themselves and to have distinct personalities, which suggests
some sort of self-awareness and intent. Practitioners of astral
projection have reported the existence of unfriendly astral life
forms, which Robert Bruce called "negs" (whom we might also
identify with elementals). If they exist, these may well have the
ability to affect the physical world.
